Alas de Colores

Welcome to

Fundación Alas de Colores, A.C.

«Today we plant the roots of those who will change the world tomorrow.»

Who we are

Every child and young person deserves to discover who they are.

Arts, education, well-being and community for children and young people in Acapulco de Juárez, Guerrero.

Fundación Alas de Colores was born in Acapulco de Juárez, Guerrero. After hurricanes Otis, in October 2023, and John, in September 2024, many children and young people lost not only their homes or schools, but also their safe places to play, learn and be together. We exist to change that reality, one life at a time.

  • 2 hurricanes that changed Acapulco: Otis (2023) and John (2024)
  • 4–17 years old: the ages the workshops are designed for
  • 5 pillars: arts and culture, education, well-being and health, childhood and dignified spaces, and citizenship
  • 7 free workshops

Alas · Wings

The lift every childhood needs to take flight. Wings are not the destination, they are the means: programs, spaces, teachers, materials and care.

De colores · Of colors

Every child and young person is a color of their own, with their own story, talents and way of seeing the world. And art runs through everything we do.

Our mission

To promote the integral human development of children and young people in vulnerable situations in the municipality of Acapulco de Juárez, Guerrero, through free programs in arts, culture, education, emotional well-being, recreation and civic learning that strengthen their self-esteem, broaden their life opportunities and accompany them as they grow into fulfilled, confident, empathetic people committed to the common good.

Our approach fits in three words

  1. See

Each child and young person as a whole, valuable person, not as a problem to be solved.

  2. Accompany

From where they are, with respect and without judgment.

  3. Lift

With tools, experiences and relationships that expand what they believe is possible.

The alados

Wings are people too.

Wings are also people. Those who share their time and what they know (volunteers, artists, facilitators and professionals) we call alados, the winged ones.
